Viterbo to Vetralla
Leaving Viterbo
Hi y’all, another short day of 10 miles. Happy for it, I was fatigued today, still getting used to walking every day again. Tomorrow is about 15 miles, so hoping, we’re up for it. Today was cool all day, and we caught a little rain at the end. We got in town before noon, so we had to wait a little to check in. We got a coke and pastry while it still was raining. This is a very small town, and mostly everything is closed or was closing early, this is one of the downfalls of Sundays. We walked mostly roads or gravel
pathes, with a few sections of olive trees, not as many grapes. We did discover and confirm the presence of hazelnut tree orchards as well. It rained on and off the rest of the afternoon, but since everything was closed, it was good time for more rest. Our last 4 days of walking coming up, hopefully not too challenging with the weather, it is warming up again. Until tomorrow.
The sunken roads- rumor has it the roads were built on the top of the soft rock, and sank over the years to this depth.
Rich plowed soil - I don’t know what they’ll plant this late?
Looking back a Viterbo, about five miles away.
We’ve been seeing berries along the way for some time, these were the first ripe ones, taste good, but need a few more days.
Hazelnuts !!
The storm was a brewing !
