La Storta to Rome!

Heading to Rome!

Hey y’all, we made it!  We are here in Rome!  We left early from La Storta, about 6:00 am, it was a little foggy.  I checked the humidity, and it was 93%, the temperature overnight did not go below 70 degrees.  We knew that we needed to get some miles behind us early.  It was just the two of us for the first 5 miles until our first stop on the outskirts of Rome.  A lot of the walk was in the fields, even though we were just out of the city.  As we were close to finishing up at our first stop, our four friends showed up, so we stayed a bit longer until they were ready to go.  We walked together the last 6 miles, it was getting really hot, and everyone of us were tired, but we kept on pushing on right into St. Peter’s square.  It is very nice that they have an area, just for the pilgrims, to avoid the lines, and walk right in to get your credentials, and subsequently right in to St Peter’s Basilica.  The Basilica is so large that it is even hard to explain, you are overwhelmed with all that is in there.  Rudy and I stayed a couple hours, but we were tired, and were ready to get to the hotel.  We arranged early on in our walk to have dinner with our new friends this evening.  We had great time, and then had to part ways.  So we are done walking, for now, sight seeing a couple mores days here in Rome, and then back to Florida.  Thanks for following along.  Until our next adventure.

Preparation 2025

 Hello everyone, it’s been a long while since last posting.  It is time for Rudy and I to experience another hike.  This year we will hike the Via Francigena pilgrimage from Lucca to Rome, Italy.  Our hike will be about half as long as last years Camino.  We will hike approximately the same amount of miles per day, but hike only 17 days.  We are in our preparation stage, training and deciding on what we are carrying with us.  We are both excited to see the countryside of Italy, and the different terrain that we may encounter.  I invite you again to follow along if you like.  Our hike will begin on June 30th. Cruising

 Hello y’all, after arriving in Germany and spending a few days in Kaiserslautern with my son Nicky, we are now on our first full day of Cruising.  Our experience with Virgin Voyages, at least for the first 12 hours has been fabulous.  Everything is top notch on this ship.  The cabin is small but well laid out, and the food so far is amazing.  I think I have underestimated the amount of weight that I will gain. Our time in Germany with Nicky was mostly visiting, eating, and playing card games.  As Rudy stated again, and we’ve said before, European towns are set up for easy living, you can walk everywhere that you need to go, and we did.  It was a very pleasant visit, and now we get to spend time with both boys on the cruise. No photos, can’t seem to attach them on the ships internet.  Sorry!

Florence and Cinque Terre

Il Duomo Cathedral   Hello y’all, since I last wrote, we spent a day in Florence and two days in Cinque Terre.  We toured Il Duomo Cathedral in Florence.  We climbed to the top of the dome, using the narrow, spiral staircase which seemed to go on forever, for someone who has a little claustrophobia.  It certainly was worth it for the view, both inside and outside the dome.                        Lower portion of the Dome Upper portion of Dome Narrow stairs The view from the top of the dome Sunset in Florence  Off to Cinque Terre, the five towns built on the rocky coasts, and connected originally by paths over rocky mountains, or what I call cliffs.  The day we arrived, we hiked the shortest, but steepest path to Riomaggiore.  This was one of the steepest, toughest hikes that I think I’ve ever done.  Wth that being said, I have a bad memory, there is currently a heat wave here, and I ...
